The Ramblers Association now have a greatly improved website which is an exceptional rescource for all walkers, hykers and young families wanting to go for walks with young children. This site lists everything from historical walks to guided walks and really audious walks.

Find A Walk Near Me by Walking Britain is a truly excellent and free resource. Just enter where you are or where you would like to walk - and print out directions. The walks are graded and you can buy a specific map of the area at the same time. These are proper OS maps and weather proofed if required.

I always think of walking as one of the few activities you can do for free - and now you can with this guide!

Walking, Hiking and Outdoor Shops

E17 Eastman Camp

52 High St, Walthamstow, London E17 7LD, UK – 020 8520 9467

Very good shop for camping and work clothing under new management friendly shop

Great shop for any pieces of equipment you need, the prices are maybe a little high, but you are paying for quality so it is worth the money.

Sports Direct

32-34 Selborne Rd, Walthamstow, London E17 7JR, UK – 0343 777 1088

Very convenient and they have every thing you'll need.

6 Glover Dr, London N18 3HF, UK – 020 3645 0000

Great value. Free coffee/tea Mon-Fri for IKEA family members. Big items like wardrobe/kitchens I would definitely recommend paying the fee for picking n delivery n fitting service.trust me well worth paying for and you don't damage car nor your back trying to drag things home. Saves a lot of time also. All other medium and small items you can pick up n fit at home fine. Weekends are mad busy. Best to visit weekday evenings

It's a fantastic no nonsense place to easily identify what you need or inspire what you could use, quickly and painlessly retrieve the packages chosen and run them through the till. Often very inventive and always of a more favourable quality to price ratio than I've found elsewhere, a clever choice to furnish a home. And some shockingly good food in the restaurant as well - good enough to warrant a visit here by itself. Probably the idea behind it!

Another good one. Walkingworld has huge library of guides with a good selection of walks, of varying lengths and grades, pretty well anywhere in the country. The walks come in an excellent format making them very easy to follow, with photographs to illustrate every important decision point and a proper Ordnance Survey map.

A modist annual subscription gives you unlimited access to all the walks. However you can Pay As Go by downloading indiviual walks..

Camping and Caravaning

Lee Valley Park

50 Watermint Quay, Craven Walk, London N16 6DD, UK – 0845 677 0600

An openfield of grass, nothing much around but fairly clean with plenty of spaces for running and football. Eid in the park is done here by Tarbiya Centre which is nice.

Wonderful and tranquil, great place for long walks and a bit of peace!

WaterWorks Centre Nature Reserve & Middlesex Filter Beds

Lammas Road, Leyton, London E10 7QB, UK – 020 8988 7566

A beautiful nature reserve. Lots of space for children to roam. Peaceful hides to observe waterfowl, and frogs to admire in the filterbeds. An oasis of peace and tranquility. A perfect Sunday afternoon

Inspirational C21 London - such a pity 30,000 had to die from cholera before in 1860...

Lee Valley Park
